Fall garden
The fall garden is the second season: crops sown in mid-to-late summer for autumn and winter harvest, counted backward from the first fall frost — lettuce 7 weeks before, carrots 10, garlic 6. Fall sowing often outperforms spring (warm soil, cooling air, fewer pests); the hard part is remembering to plant in July and August.
