Light frost

A light frost (36°F threshold in NOAA's tables) chills tender plants — tomatoes, peppers, basil show damage — while leaving hardy vegetables unharmed. Gardeners use the light-frost date as the warning shot for tender harvests and the 32°F date as the general deadline.
